It’s Not What You Are That Holds You Back - Part Three

August 14th, 2008

During so much of our struggle we spend inordinate amounts of time focused on what we think are our shortcomings or our lack.

As Tony Melendez so beautifully proves in this video, it’s not what you don’t have that counts. It’s how you use what you do have.

It is a well-known and well-demonstrated Universal Law that whatever you focus on expands. Focus on your lack and you get more of it. Focus on your abundance, and by the same law, you must get more of it.

Watch this video and guess which one Tony focuses on:

It’s Not Enough To Start The Race – You’ve Got to FINISH It!

August 10th, 2008

Just as the Beijing Olympics will provide us with a lot of inspirational moments we can use in our life, so too did the Olympic games of 40 years ago. John Akhwari was a marathon runner representing Tanzania at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City. During the race he fell, badly cutting his knee and dislocating the joint. Rather than quitting, he got up from the fall, bandaged his leg and continued to run. He finished hours after the winner and last among the 74 competitors. Asked why he continued to run when there was no chance that he could win, he replied, “My country did not send me 5,000 miles to start the race. They sent me 5,000 miles to finish the race.”

Watch this video and then get up off the track and finish YOUR RACE!

Have You Failed Enough to Be Famous?

    May 22nd, 2008

I am always amused by people who’ve had a few setbacks in life who complain that they just don’t think they’ll ever be successful because they’ve done everything it takes and it hasn’t worked.

The truth of the matter is they haven’t done enough to fail enough to be successful. Every highly successful person I know has failed A LOT more than average people ever fail. Every big success story I know of had at least one major failure before hitting it big. Walt Disney went bankrupt, as did J.C. Penney and Henry Ford (TWICE).

Watch this great video about famous failures and get out there and start failing!

We All Have Bullies in our Life…

    April 21st, 2008

We all have bullies in our life but what’s really important is whether we let them steal our dream or not. Not only is this an amazing story of a 13-year-old, but a remarkable talent as well. Reminds me a lot of Paul Potts.

Be sure and listen to what Simon has to say at the end of the video — there’s a HUGE lesson there.

Why the Law of Attraction Isn’t Working

    April 17th, 2008

It’s everywhere you turn — somebody’s teaching on the Law of Attraction. But talking to most people it doesn’t sound like it’s working. We just posted a Bob Proctor video on our Claim Your Power Now blog that answers the question. As one person commented, “it’s vintage Bob Proctor.” See Bob Proctor: Why the Law of Attraction Isn’t Working…

I wept because I had no shoes…Part Two

    April 13th, 2008

Earlier I wrote a post using the old Persian proverb, “I wept because I had no shoes until I met a man who had no feet.” So many times we’re focused on what we don’t have that we can never get around to using the gifts that we do have.

The lady in this video does have feet. In fact, it’s amazing what she does with them.

As my friend, Michael Angier, told his SuccessNet.org subscribers:

“If you ever feel like you can’t do something, watch this video.

If you ever feel sorry for yourself, watch this video.

If you ever start to complain or make excuses for not fulfilling more of your potential, watch this video.”

It’s Not What You Are That Holds You Back - Part Two

    April 1st, 2008

Here’s a follow up to the post I made several months ago.

Several weeks ago I spoke to a group in Houston and I showed them the pictures below.

Famous Dyslexics Richard Branson, Thomas Edison, Cher, Walt Disney, Jay Leno, Whoopi Goldberg, Ted Turner, Winston Churchill

Do you recognize Thomas Edison, Cher, Walt Disney, Richard Branson, Jay Leno, Whoopi Goldberg, Ted Turner and my hero Winston Churchill?

Then I asked the audience what they all had in common.

    Can you guess?

There were quite a few answers from the audience and they were all wrong. It was only after I pulled out $100 and offered it as a prize that a person in the back overcame his fear of being wrong and volunteered the correct answer….

    ….they were all dyslexic!

I pointed out that the role that made each of them famous also required a lot of reading. Do you know how hard it is for a dyslexic person to read?

But not a single one of those great people that I cited let dyslexia keep them from being all they were created to be.

That’s why one of my most favorite quotes is, “It’s not what you are that holds you back, it’s what you think you’re not.”

I use that quote by Denis Waitley virtually every time I speak to an audience.

Because it really speaks to the problem I think most people have in struggling for success — they believe they’re lacking something that if they possessed it would make them successful. When the truth is, they already possess everything they need to be successful hey just need to learn how to use it to their advantage.

One of the easiest ways to change a limiting belief is to study the “evidence” — find the truth. The Internet makes it so easy to research that particular challenge you find limiting. Look for people who’ve gone on to great success despite the same challenge. Study them in depth and model what they did to achieve their goals.

And please never forget this, “It’s not what you are that holds you back, it’s what you think you’re not.”

For one of Denis Waitley’s greatest programs go here….

    I Wept Because I Had No Shoes…

    February 24th, 2008

You’re probably familiar with the old Persian proverb, “I wept because I had no shoes until I met a man who had no feet.” So many times we’re focused on what we don’t have that we can never get around to using the gifts that we do have.

When I run across someone whose using their gifts without regard to their supposed handicap, I try to honor them in some way because they inspire all of us to look inside at the greatness we’re capable of. Dax Crum One-Handed Basketball playerDax Crum is a Division 1 college basketball player in the U.S. Now that in itself is very special because very basketball players ever reach that level of play. But what makes Dax a hero to me is that he plays at that super-competitive level with ONE HAND. And play he does — as this Fox Sports video shows.

There’s been a lot of talk in recent years about the Law of Attraction, and one of the key principles of that law is “whatever you focus on expands.” Focus on your lack and you’ll get more of it. Focus on your abundance and it will expand. It’s obvious that Dax focuses on the strengths that he has — and he makes the most of them. And so can YOU!

The Go-Giver: A Little Story About a Powerful Business Idea

    January 14th, 2008

Go-Giver by Bob Burg and John Mann My friend Bob Burg has co-authored a great new book with John David Mann. The Go-Giver is a fictional story that teaches one of the most powerful success principles in the world — why giving more ALWAYS results in getting more.

Best selling author Pat Williams called it, “the best business parable since The Greatest Salesman in the World and The One Minute Manager.” And if you’ve read those books you know they are incredible!

It’s five-gold star rated at Amazon and headed to the top of the best seller list. Check it out here….
